I am so behind…

•May 25, 2008 • 1 Comment

Wow.  I’m posting.  Been awhile, huh?  Real life so got in the way of my internet fun in May.  Now sweeps are over, however, so life is getting somewhat back to normal.  Somewhat…

First I have to share a link Frank sent me.  I was starting to sour on the notion of JJ Abrams’ new FOX series Fringe based on what I was hearing here and there.  Then Frank sent me this link to the extended trailer. I’m sweet on this show again now.  Thanks Frank. 😉  http://io9.com/391094/watch-jj-abrams-mad-scientist-at-work

There have been a lot of series and season finales this month.  My beloved Women’s Murder Club was killed off in favor of Boston Legal and Eli Stone.  This made no sense to me since they were one of the few shows to improve their demos and ratings post strike.  Of course the new show runner butchered what was lovable about the program in the first place.  The first two episodes back were pretty terrible.  At least the finale was a return to form and the fans got a little closure.  RIP WMC. 😦

The finale of Grey’s Anatomy made me all kinds of happy.  This was a return to the show I fell in love with.  I was glad to see it back.  I liked that we’re finally getting somewhere in resolving Meredith’s issues.  I loved finding out that Bailey is a Star Wars geek.  I felt horrible for poor Alex even though I wanted to slap him through most of the episode.  And I know a lot of haters will come out of the woodwork about Hahn and Torres but I’m rather intrigued to see where they take the story.  I was happy that they gave Sloan such a great character moment when he urged Callie to go for Erica, which left him all alone at the end.  Hopefully next season Mark will start to get a little depth and stop being just a “man whore.”

And on the subject of season finales… Bones took the prize for most shocking.  Holy crap!  I won’t divulge the ending here, but suffice it to say Bones will never be the same again.  I can’t decide if I’m impressed with the writers for having the guts to go there, or if I want to smack them for destroying one of my favorite characters.

The CSI shows all had intriguing ends as well.  I don’t think I’m spoiling anything to comment on Horatio’s shooting at the end of Miami… it was in the promo after all.  Was it wrong that I laughed?  It’s about time someone shot him considering all the characters that have promised to do so over the years.

Alas, poor Warrick on CSI…  I saw on TV Guide’s website where Gary Dourdan will make a few appearances next year.  Sara fans can rejoice as Jojora Fox will also be returning for an episode of two.

As for New York… I thought I had this one figured out until the scene at the end in the cab.  That was a twist I didn’t see coming.  A really good episode.  New York had a great season.  Its best, yet, in my opinion.

I’ll chat more about finales once I’ve seen SVU, Criminal Minds, and Ghost Whisperer.  I’ve also seen extended trailers for most of CBS’ new shows.  I’ll share my thoughts about Worst Week (funny!), Project Gary, Eleventh Hour, The Mentalist, The Ex List, and Harper’s Island next time…

Caprica lead cast

One more thing to add to tonight’s post.  According to TV Guide the female lead for the Battlestar Galactica spin-off Caprica has been cast.  Here is the link… http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-News-Blog/Todays-News/Deadwoods-Trixie-Inhabits/800039022

I didn’t watch Deadwood.  Can anyone tell me if they think Paula Malcolmson’s casting is a good thing?

A little update

Sorry I haven’t posted lately.  Real life is getting in the way of all the fun stuff…

I came across the supposed cover art for the next Stargate: SG-1 movie on www.gateworld.net.  Kinda pretty.

This direct to DVD movie looks to be even better than Ark of Truth.  Look for it to be in stories this summer.  And speaking of summer… rumor has it Stargate: Atlantis will return for its fifth season starting in July.

And while I’m on the subject of Stargate… Claudia Black (of SG-1 and Farscape fame) will be in the season finale of the vampire drama Moonlight.  I might actually have to record that one. I gave up on the series after the atrocious pilot but I’ve heard the show got considerably better.  I guess I’ll find out one way or the other.

Looking forward to tonight’s episode of Women’s Murder Club.  One of the club gets shot and it’s not Angie Harmon’s Lindsay.  That’s all I’m saying.  Expect lots of angst to ensue.  The ratings for the return were far from outstanding but the show was up against Law & Order: SVU’s 200th episode with Robin Williams.  I think the fact that the show got ratings at all up against that should count for something.

And I know I still need to pony up my review of Firefly and Serenity.  I just haven’t had the time to do it properly.  It’s on my list, though…

New info on Sarah Connor Chronicles

In case you missed today’s Ausiello report over at TV Guide here’s the scoop…

The show is hunting for a couple of new regulars: Becky, a hot teenaged hipster, and Catherine, an unusually earthy business bigwig in her early forties. Which leads me to believe that young John is about to get a girlfriend. Because of the new teenager, I mean, not the 40-year-old female Bill Gates. Although, now that I mention it, he does have some mother issues.

I don’t know how I feel about the addition of all these regulars. First Brian Austin Greene and now two more.  The one quibble I had with the show was that the last few episodes started to be Cameron with John and Sarah with Derek all the time.  The best dynamic on the show is Sarah and Cameron.  I’m simply transfixed whenever they have a scene together.  I don’t mind Derek and am curious to see what happens with him (I have a hunch he’s not going to be an ally for long) but I hope the writers at least continue to give us good storylines with the three main stars.

The other things that makes me a little nervous about this info… I don’t mind some of the stuff in high school.  It adds some comic relief and I am curious about the whole painted doors in the hallway stuff.  But I am worried we’re going to go the way of Terminator: 90210.  Hopefully the writers will prove that my worries are completely unfounded.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Frank filled me in on the welcome news that FOX will start re-airing the first 9 eps in August leading up to the September premiere.  We can also expect the DVDs around that time.

News that makes me happy

So here is the thing.  I’m a fan of Women’s Murder Club.  I’m also a fan of Joss Whedon and can’t wait for Dollhouse to premiere this fall.  What do the two things have to do with one another?  Plenty.

Women’s Murder Club was initially run by Liz Craft and Sarah Fain.  Unfortunately, they were let go as show runners after the writer’s strike.  These ladies write some awesome dialogue.  Just check out their work on Women’s Murder Club or Angel or The Shield… you get the picture.  Being that Joss Whedon is no idiot he quickly snatched these two great writers up for Dollhouse.  Like the title of this post says… news that makes me happy.  It’s like two of my favorite things colliding.  Love.  It.

This just makes me even more excited to see Dollhouse this fall.  And a big thanks to Joss Whedon for putting these two talented ladies back in business.

Check out Jospeh Mallozzi’s blog entry for last night (April 23).  He has more info on “Whispers” the season 5 episode featuring Christina Cox, Nicole de Boer and Janina Gavanker.  I hope he doesn’t mind, but I borrowed a few pictures to grab your interest.  I really recommend Joe’s blog.  He’s awesome about posting behind the scenes tidbits and will often answer fans’ questions.  He also writes some amazing food reviews about Vancover restaurants.  For more info about this episode of Atlantis which is shooting this week go to http://www.josephmallozzi.wordpress.com

Women’s Murder Club promos – one from down under

Seriously loving the song “Mercy” by Duffy ABC used in the relaunch promos.  Check it out here.  And be sure to watch next Tuesday!  SVU is a lock to return next season – WMC isn’t…

I found this spot while looking for the one above.  Talk about different marketing…
